Preity said, But yes, it didn’t work out. "Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong.  Every mistake I could make, I made."

Accepting her mistake, the dimpled beauty said, "Every actor has a failure. It's okay. There are lots of things that have worked. This didn't. So what? I'm the kind of person who runs even harder after I fall."

 When the going is not so great you know who you are and who your friends are. So bring on the bad and the good. I can take both on my chin.

It’s the people around me who have changed. Equations change, perspective change. That’s life. There is very little to complain about.

If you sit me next to Bill Gates I’ll feel like a non-achiever. But if you place me next to someone who is terminally ill I’d feel blessed for the gift of life.

“I run even harder after I fall,” is her take.

About getting her confidence back she says, “It doesn’t matter how the world looks at you. It’s how you look at yourself that matters. I have great friends, a great life. As for my career, picture abhi baqi hai, mere dost!”

You think I’d remain single all these years? Whatever is happening with me is good. People say I am looking happy. That’s because I am.

"I am not the kind of person who will stand up and complain," she insists. "I have no complaints against anyone. If I’ve been away from the entertainment industry, it’s because I am not into selling myself. You won’t see me buying space to get written about. I want to be appreciated for the work that I do.” 

"The one thing that bothers me about our present day lifestyles is the vulgar stress on wealth. An individual’s success is measured by his or her wealth, not by moral values. Today, you are not judged for how much good you can do but for how much scandal you can create and how much skin you can expose.

"I fear the values I was brought up with are disappearing," she continues. "Of course, we were naughty when we were kids. But we were mercifully spared the consumeristic culture. When you ask today’s kids what they want to do when they grow up, they say they want to be rich and famous.” 

And to make things worse, Preity claims they're growing up without heroes.

“What happened to those dreams of being Jawaharlal Nehru and Lata Mangeshkar?" she asks. "No kid wants to change the world. According to me, a hero is a soldier or a doctor, not a film star. Since we have no role-models in real life, we hardly have roles of substance in films, except for an occasional Milkha Singh.” 

"Out of the 37 films that I’ve done, 36 have been 'PG13' certified (children below 13 years can watch the films when accompanied by parents). Only Salaam Namaste was for adults because a live-in relationship was scandalous back then.

"There is a need for entertainment designed for children. We don’t have too many films kids can watch comfortably with their parents. 

"In life, sometimes you don't make commercial decisions, but make human decisions," she added.

Preity admitted the delay affected her financially.

"But I could afford it," she said. "I don't believe that business should be done ruthlessly."

Reacting to rumours that the film didn't have buyers, Preity said: "I will be producing again. I want to do bigger and better things. I hear these rumours from one ear and remove them from the other. I can only hit back by making sure that I do good work."

When cheered for her kind act, Preity brushes it off with, "It was a normal thing to do. I don't consider it to be a great act. It's just being human.  Every citizen should do things like this. Abroad, everybody stops and helps accident victims. It's the most normal thing to do there, unlike here, sadly. But here, I guess it's difficult as people usually are scared of getting dragged into a police case. It's not just about being a socially aware citizen. It's about doing what you would want others to do for you and when that doesn't happen, it upsets me. 

This year, I had decided to ditch all superstitions... But for this match I kept standing through the match because every time I sat, a wicket fell. And when I stood, someone would hit it for a boundary so I got nervous. I tried every superstition in the book but nothing ever worked so I have stopped believing in them. My only policy today is: As long as the intent to win is clear and we stand together united as a team, we are fine.

These rumours are crazy. What's the big deal about our hug? We have both been through a lot with this team and we just celebrated our first win after, in our first match, after six years so it was an exciting moment for all of us! Why can't two grown up, mature individuals who have been in a relationship have a warm relationship? Why do we have to be cold or rude or mean? Ness and I were thrilled so we hugged each other.

"I am reactive as a person. This is part of my personality. I cannot just sit quietly and do nothing, I must react! There are others who don't react. It is their way of showing their feelings," she said.

Because that's the kind of person I am. I am very reactive towards everything. There are some who don't react at all, they absorb everything quietly, while I would go all out and show my expressions. This is not part of some tamasha that I do; I do it because it is part of my personality.

And you don't care what others think of you? 
Why should I? People will always have an opinion, but you have to live life the way you want to. It is very easy to tell others what to do, but difficult to implement it on yourself. I had never thought I'd become an actor. And even when I did get into films, I remember I was shooting in Rajasthan for my debut film and had to take my final exams for criminal psychology. I cancelled the shoot to take my exams because I had promised my mom that I would completemy education even if became an actor. You don't see too many actors do this kind of thing.

Films are a part of my being, they don't define me. I have this whole thing that when God gives you more than you have imagined, you should give it back.

"I don't believe that if you like something you should wear it just once. It's part of a woman's nature that if she likes something she will be stuck to it. Anybody who says otherwise is lying," she said.
